As of late we have departed from our traditional rap reviews, along with our standard format. That all changes today however, so those of you calling for us to get back to business- here you go.
We have covered Spitta’s drops on here before, and today, we take a look at the latest – Collection Agency. Since this is not our first time talking about Andretti, we will skip the preliminaries and get right to it.
Feel
The feel of Collection Agency is consistent throughout the tape, which is what Curren$y is known for, even if it is to a fault. The tape feels like a rainy day- but not a bad one. Maybe you have to drive through a light, but steady rain, and are in no particular hurry. Or maybe you are off, and get the chance to relax, and maybe look out the window for old time’s sake. The smooth and melodic flow of the tape can lull you to sleep or get you ready to relax. This can be seen as a bad thing to some, but not to us here at ORR.
Lyrics
As will any Spitta project, he can be criticized for rapping about the same thing- which is true in the case of Collection Agency. But what some call a weakness, I would call a strength but, I do have to admit when the bars are not noteworthy. The project is full of typical Andretti content- money, cars, and weed. With the lone feature coming from Larry June, Curren$y’s consistent flow dominates the project. Nothing more need be said in this regard.
Production
Smooth and melodic, the production lends itself well to the overall feel of the tape. Nothing too amp, the mellow vibes sewn by the various producers really works well in the collective sense. The tape is extremely cohesive thanks to this.
Overall
Collection Agency is what seems like the millionth installment in Curren$y’s robust catalog. It is consistent, even if to a fault, but does provide a certain vibe not often felt in rap music. If you are looking for something to relax to- this is the tape. If you are trying to get ready to go out, or prepping for a gym session, then this is not the tape. Spitta fans may be divided over this one, but we find it a welcome addition to the 2021 soundtrack, even if it is not the pinnacle.
The album in a word: Calm.
