Music

What’s the word?

I know it has been a while since the last post, and there are a few reasons for that. With so much going on in the world people are left to cling to what little optimism they can find, if any at all. Death strikes often, and those who remain are left to pick up the pieces.

I thought it best to step away from the normal rap reviews for a time and simply talk about the importance of music. If nothing else, I hope it provides a little insight into the mind of The Oracle, and offers a bit of a distraction from everything going on.

Music is everywhere.

Be it inside by way of the hum of a fan, or outside by way of gentle breeze that alerts a wind chime to do what it was designed to do. When you are in your car on your way to work, or when you turn it down to help you “see” better. When you are gone, when you are home, or when you just want to take a ride, music can be found everywhere.

Music is versatile.

Many of us have seen the inside of a gym once or twice, or sat uncomfortably in a church pew as they played that same song again. Sometimes you just need to think about where you are in life, or perhaps you are trying to study for that must-pass exam. You may be getting ready for a night out, or winding down for a chill evening after a long work week. Perhaps you are on the way to a funeral, a wedding, or a holiday celebration. Maybe you are watching your favorite movie, and the crescendo in the background lets you know that the protagonist and the villain are about to get active. Music can be used for all of these things.

Music is timeless.

Of course certain songs age- what was hot then probably isn’t hot now, and vice versa. However, the music of an era is the closest thing we have to time travel. Good or bad, when that certain song comes on you find yourself exactly where you were at the time. Some of these songs you skip with haste, and some of them you try to beat the block down just to remember a simpler time. Some artists are only able to make one good song their entire career, but all it took was that one song for their work to become immortalized.

Music is for everyone.

Regardless of your race, tastes, or circumstance, there is a bit of music for everyone. Unfortunately, many spend their time trying to convince others that their own tastes are superior. But nothing quite compares to the “Who put you on this?” often heard in car rides or otherwise. Or adding a song to a party playlist, just because you know it’s your friend’s favorite song. There are many who love music, and few who do not.

Wat’s Wrong – The Sun’s Tirade, Isiah Rashad

Regardless of the circumstance, music has done a great deal for the world. The next time you are feeling down, (as we often do today) turn on your favorite track, cut the music up, and simply ride the wave.

We do hope this helps you all out there as we all try to make it through. Feel free to take a listen to some of the marquee spins mentioned throughout the article.
