3 PIECE SET X CURREN$Y
And we are back with our thirteenth
official review! As promised, the below are our metrics for our
reviews. To see our previous review of UNTRAPPED X YO GOTTI, click here.
This review will be a little bit different in format, as there
are just 3 songs on the EP, so instead of the normal referenced criteria, we are
simply going to talk about the project as a whole.
3 PIECE SET X CURREN$Y
Release Date: 2.21.2020
Number of Tracks: 3
Duration: 6 MIN
Favorite Track: Rag Top Love Affair
The Christmas Eve of 2012,
underground hip hop heads everywhere were treated to one of the smoothest 3 track
tapes of all time. Many of the tracks from A
Closed Session: A 3 Piece Set, still get rotation to this day. Curren$y,
along with the Jet Life alum Young Roddy showed out on that tape, so when we
heard about this year’s 3 Piece Set,
we could not have been more excited. And since it dropped without warning, it
was the consummate surprise of the year.
This has been a hard week for The
Oracle, and basketball fans alike, and our struggle was previously documented
in the last post. The Jet Life general delivered the music right on time, as
the tape provides a soundtrack for recovery and reflection. On the first song, 52 Seconds, Spitta raps about his hard
work, and addresses those who may feel jealous of what he has. The entire tape
is produced by Thelonious Martin, a frequent provider of Jet Life beats, and it
is one of the smoothest packs you will ever hear.
The rap game has also suffered some
losses, with JuiceWrld at the end of the last year, and Pop Smoke at the beginning
of this month. On Survivor’s Remorse,
Curren$y laments the passing of those who have left us, and harped on the
important of spending time with our people while we are still here. It is a
sentiment that we here at Oracle Rap Reviews could not agree with more.
“No more sending texts – I’m pullin
up on all my niggas.” - Curren$y, Survivors Remorse.
A Ragtop Love Affair,
does not deviate from the melodic nature of the tape either, as the production
places the drums right on time, and combines perfectly with the piano. A harmonic
end to the tape, and our personal favorite, Spitta’s cadence fits right along
with beat, providing a satisfying end that begs to be replayed.
A 3 Piece Set is a masterclass in underground rap music, and a
fantastic follow up to the 2012 collaboration with Young Roddy. Nothing soothes
a grieving heart like some smooth music, and this tape is definitely that. If we
ever get the chance to talk to or meet The Pilot of the Jet Life crew, we would
be sure to tell him as much. At only 6 minutes total in length, there is no reason
why you should not give it a listen and see for yourself. However you decide to
unwind or relax, or even reflect on how far you have come in life, this is a
tape that can provide some appropriate tunes.
